Dance Happenings in January 2011

Look for an article about "Cabaret Dances" in this Sunday's Union-Tribune. And here are links to the most recent dance articles in the Union Tribune:

- Feature on Young Choreographers prize - www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/dec/18/the-future-of-dance/

A request: So far, the new regime at the UT has been very open to dance stories. However, like everything else on the web, they give you a place to click if you "like" a story. At some point they may start totaling up those "likes" and deciding not to put money into areas that don't get a lot of response. So if you go to check out these stories, please bear that in mind.

And for anyone who's reading the Jennifer Homans history of ballet, "Apollo's Angels" (I'm about 100 pages into it), here's a link to Alistair Macauley's interesting, somewhat snarky response to it in Tuesday's NY Times: www.nytimes.com/2011/01/05/arts/dance/05homans.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=Apollo's&st=cse

Here's what's coming up in January:
  • 13-15 A.W.A.R.D. Show, Redcat (L.A.), artists participating in competition for $10K prize include SD artists Leslie Seiters, Karen Schaffman, Liam Clancy, Eric Geiger
  • 14-16 Cabaret Dances, JCC
  • 18 Dance Moves, Temecula (info on PGK Project website)
  • 20-23 "Reflections" - Bolshoi-trained ballerinas @Orange County PAC
